Chris' Soapbox:

  • Get off President Bush's butt! The man has been faced with one major challenge after another and has still seemed to lead our country with conviction. Ask yourself this question, "Would I want his job?" For most people the answer would be a resounding NO! Yet so many groups and individuals dish huge criticism his way with mostly baseless arguments. Let the man do his job, and if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
  • Chante Mallard got a light sentence. Her crime of hitting a homeless man with her car and letting him bleed to death in her garage was much more heinous a crime than the normal "hit-and-run" accidents that most people compare this to. She made the conscious decision to let him die to save herself from a DWI charge. This is the moment that this became murder. Thank goodness the justice system in the state of Texas has the guts to push for a murder charge in this type of case. In many other states she would have gotten manslaughter at the most and a slap on the hand. The total disregard for human life in this case is simply scary and mindboggling.
  • Did I miss something in Government class or isn't the Judicial branch supposed to INTERPRET laws instead of make them? Since when are they in charge of determining the laws or rules our society will live by according to their views of morality and equal treatment? Isn't this the Legislative Branch's duty? Recent rulings in regards to affirmative action and sodomy laws illustrate my point. I believe affirmative action belittles the accomplishments and talents of minorities. There are thousands of minority Americans who can qualify for law school on their own merits, and don't need any help by any artificial entitlements. Allowing these makes a strong statement that there remains a feeling of difference between races in our country. Wasn't the point of the Civil Rights Movement to get equal treatment for all people in America? In regards to the Sodomy laws, it should not be a federal issue that the Supreme Court is ruling on. It should be determined by state governments according to how they want to legislate these laws.
I'm stoked about the upcoming Fantasy Football Season!!!
